My DD has her heart set on the luggage backpack combination. I think it is very expensive at $92. Does anyone have it or seen it and what do you think. Should I break down and buy it? I am also struggling with a new doll or more stuff for the two she already has. Does anyone have input or ideas. My big problem with a doll is she wants Nellie and that would turn in to two dolls because I want Samantha.

Cathy I am probably one of the worst persons to ask this question because I would say "go for it" for everything We don't have the backpack, but I have heard they are nice. We haven't gotten one yet because it seemed a little high in price. I have seen them on ebay, though. If it were me, I would go for the accessories for the dolls. Of course, Nellie would be nice and then you have an excuse to get Samantha I would sit down and look at what you really truly want and then you can't feel bad about your decision.

I think you should make her save her allowance or money she receives for birthdays etc if she wants it. IMO it will not provide the hours of enjoyment the dolls and clothing will. Also it will help her learn to save and how bad she really wants it in case it is just a short term desire.

Nia wanted the Girl sized Greek outfit for Halloween. And I asked her, Do you really want this? or would you rather have outfits for Kit and Lissie? I gave her a choice, one or the other. After thinking about it, she chose the doll outfits! Cause she realized that she would wear the outfit for one day, plau it was $50! So she knew it was expensive. I gave her a choice and she decided. so I am going to get her 1-2 outfits.
I would ask. "OK, Do you want the bag?" or would you want Nellie?" it is either or, not both. She will decide on Nellie! Also, show her that you can buy a Bag for the dolls from Kmart for $10, they are cheaper now as they are on sale. Tell her it does not have to be AG! Maybe she wants the bag to take her dolls with her. So maybe another bag will be good.
Tell us what happens! I hope you get Samantha and Nellie!

If the luggage is something she is willing to work & save for & it has been for awhile, I would consider getting it & putting it away. I would also be curious about how much she would be using it, does she go many places where she might need to use it? If not, maybe you can influence her away from it.
My daughter wants kit's table & has been working on saving up for it, by staying in her bed at night, but with the recent discount I decided to go ahead & order it so that when she finally has enough stickers, she will be able to get it, plus by ordering 'big' orders all at once, you can optimize the shipping & the discount.

I have the backpack-only, and it was a Godsend in Chicago. Adults (men and women) and kids alike stopped my mom and I in the store and on the street about the backpack. It's much higer quality than you'd expect from a "plastic" backpack.
When I saw the suitcase-combo in person at the store, I was kicking myself for not going for it!
If you'd like to buy my backpack, I'll order the suitcase and backpack combo!

Thanks for the help. The no play value issue and price was my big concern. We do travel a fair bit so it would be used is the good point on this. I have made her save her allowance for items that are large and she does a very good job of this. She is a kid who reminds me of a dog with a bone if she wants it she wants it. I am leaning towards the luggage as a Santa gift only because she has asked for it every time we get a new catalog. I think if I go the doll way I am buying what I want not what she wants. Thanks again I really appreciate it.

A less expensive, but not as nice alternative, is the Magic Attic backpack/doll carrier. It doesn't have as many features, but only costs $13 at doll market.

I also wanted to add that you may want to talk to your daughter about why she wants this item. I could be that she really wants this specific item and nothing else will do. On the other hand, she could just want something similar to it.
I just remembered that we went through something like this a while back. My daughter kept pointing out those rolling laptop computer carriers and saying that she wanted one. After much discussion, it turned out that what she really wanted was her own luggage. We travel a lot, and she didn't want to share suitcase space with mom anymore. The laptop carriers are small, so she thought it was a kid suitcase. So, for the cost of what she she thought she wanted (laptop carrier), we were able to get her what she really wanted (a set of youth sized luggage). As a bonus, I got more space in my own suitcase.

I checked the Bitty Baby suitcase and although it isn't a backpack, the dimensions are incredibly close to the ones for the backpack and suitcase and at $48 instead of $92. Just a thought. I wonder if an AGT doll would fit in the place for BB?
